Leadership Development
Leadership Development is often referred to as a series of activities that enhance the quality of leadership demonstrated by individual or within an organization. The success of leadership development efforts has been linked to three key variables:
- Definition of clearly demonstratable individual performance attributes
- Quality and effectiveness of the leadership development program
- Genuine support for behavioral change by the leader's supervisor and executives
Strong leadership development efforts are anchored in company values and guiding leadership principles reinforced by the corporate culture. Those values and guiding principles can then be disaggregated in to leadership competencies and evaluation criteria to assess leadership performance and identification of gaps. Competency based learning plans and curricula along with the associated investment provide the mechanism and tools for gap closure. Leadership development efforts must be fully integrated with the existing Performance Management program.
